WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE ABOUT William Shakespeare was an English playwright, poet, and actor who is widely regarded as the greatest writer in the English language. He was born in 1564 in Stratford-upon-Avon, England, to John Shakespeare, a glove maker and local official, and Mary Arden, who came from a well-respected family. It was believed that Shakespeare attended a local grammar school, where he studied Latin, literature, and classical texts, which later influenced his writing. In the late 1580s, Shakespeare moved to London, where he began working in the theater as both an actor and a writer. He later met his wife Anne Hathaway and had two daughters and one son. After moving to London, he quickly gained recognition for his talent and became a member of the Lord Chamberlain’s Men, a popular acting company that later became known as the King’s Men under the reign of King James I.
